Interior Removal Specialist wins California Assembly award

California C&D recycler earns Small Business of the Year award.

South Gate, California-based Interior Removal Specialist, Inc. (IRS) has been presented with a Small Business of the Year award by California Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon. IRS was honored as the 2016 Small Business of the Year for the 63rd Assembly District.

“Companies like Interior Removal Specialist show businesses can be financially successful while also giving back to the communities where they operate,” said Speaker Rendon at the award presentation. “By donating recovered materials such as furniture and other useful items, IRS is benefitting local organizations while at the same time diverting materials from landfills. That’s great for local non-profits and the environment.”

IRS (which was profiled by Construction & Demolition Recycling in a 2008 article that can be found here) specializes in commercial interior renovation and demolition and also runs a mixed construction and demolition (C&D) materials recycling plant. IRS says it won CalRecycle’s Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP) for 11 consecutive years from 2001 to 2011.

IRS also has focused on donating materials from job sites to build the Good Shepherd shelter for homeless women and children in Los Angeles, as well as schools and churches throughout the region. The company also cooperates with the South Gate Police Department and other law enforcement agencies to offer free use of its warehouse for training exercises.

Rendon represents the 63rd Assembly District, which includes the cities and communities of Bell, Cudahy, Hawaiian Gardens, Lakewood, North Long Beach, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, and South Gate in Southern California.
