Illinois Town Tables Decision on C&D Landfill

State EPA has not yet granted permits to turn Joliet, Ill., quarry into C&D landfill site.

The city council of Joliet, Ill., has tabled a decision on a plan to turn a local quarry into a landfill for clean construction and demolition debris, according to a report in the Joliet Herald Times (Joliet, Ill.).

The state EPA has not granted necessary permits for the proposed project because of nearby homeowners’ wells, according to the report.

DeBe Land Development Inc., Orland Park, Ill., has plans to drain the inactive quarry and use it as a C&D landfill. As part of the plan, the company wants to annex the Joliet Township site into the city of Joliet.

The city council has tabled a decision on the matter of annexation until July 15.
