A study to develop a parametric model based on key factors used in the initial phases of demolition estimation is being undertaken by the Illinois State University’s Department of Technology.
The confidential survey is Web-based and involves participation of demolition contractors.
Estimation of the cost of demolition projects is more of an art than a science, says Dr. Mohamed El-Gafy, who is overseeing the project. The goal is to find out some scientific basis for the factors considered in estimating demolition jobs.
More information about the survey, including how to participate, is available at training.ilstu.edu/elgafy/. The survey is open to all demolition contractors.
