Kevin Trimm has purchased the majority stake in HRH Metals, a Birmingham, Alabama-area scrapyard that has operated since 1942. He purchased the shares of longtime owners Ed Robinson, the grandson of one of the company’s founders, and Steve Crawford, who took an ownership stake in HRH Metals in 2013.
Trimm, 50, has been a minority stakeholder in the company since 2020, having joined HRH Metals in 2013 as an employee.
“I was given a tremendous opportunity when I joined HRH Metals,” Trimm says. “Ed and Steve have been very good to me, and I am honored to be succeeding them in this business and carrying on the values and ideals they have taught me over the years.”
HRH Metals employs approximately 25 people and operates from a 10-acre facility in Moody, Alabama, on the north side of Interstate 20. The full-service scrapyard accepts ferrous and nonferrous metals five days per week and performs industrial demolition work in Alabama. HRH Metals also offers brokerage services, with clients throughout the United States.
Crawford says Trimm’s purchase of the company fulfills a plan that has been in the works for years.
“You think about how you will one day exit your business, and this is a wonderful way for us to retire from HRH Metals,” he says. “I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside remarkable people. It’s been an honor to partner with Ed Robinson, my mentor and friend, for 36 years. His kindness, generosity and respected leadership have been the cornerstone of my career and the greatest gift. Kevin is one of the best I’ve ever seen at making connections and building lasting relationships with the people he meets.”
Trimm says he will continue to honor the core values of HRH Metals, which include creating strong relationships in the industry, taking care of the company’s employees and being there for customers.
“I am very excited about taking HRH Metals to new places, including opening to the general public this year, while at the same time doing business the way that has made us successful for more than 80 years,” he says.
