Holcim, a building materials and solutions company headquartered in Switzerland, has completed acquisitions of demolition materials recycling businesses and agreed to make a third.
The company has closed the acquisition of Thames Materials, a recycler of construction and demolition materials serving west London and its surrounding counties. In addition, Holcim has acquired a majority stake in the recycling business of A&S Recycling GmbH, a Hanover-based company operating in north Germany, and has agreed to acquire an unnamed recycler of construction demolition materials based in northwest France.
According to Holcim, the acquisitions will scale the company’s circular construction technology ECOCycle. With the acquisition of Thames Materials, Holcim is now able to provide circular construction services to the Greater London area.
A&S Recycling’s three sites located in the Greater Hanover area brings the total number of Holcim recycling hubs in Germany to 10. The acquisition of the recycling business in Northwest France aims to reinforce Holcim’s footprint in the region and will bring the number of recycling centers the company operates in the country to 28.
The three companies have a combined annual permitted processing capacity of approximately 1.3 million tons.
“The acquisitions of Thames Materials, A&S Recycling GmbH and a recycling business in northwest France will extend our leadership in circular construction and contribute to our NextGen Growth 2030 target of recycling more than 20 million tons of construction demolition materials a year,” Holcim CEO Miljan Gutovic says. “The future of construction is circular, and I look forward to realizing that future together with our new colleagues.”
