Hitachi Construction Products, Moline, Ill., has introduced the Zaxis 17U-2 compact excavator, an upgrade of the Hitachi EX17U.
Among its improvements over the previous model are adjustable-width tracks and its backfill blade with foldable end sections. Using both features reduces the overall width to 40 inches. When fully extended to more than 50 inches, the undercarriage provides stability for operations. The machine also comes standard with a quick coupler/hydraulic attachment package.
The 17U-2 is powered by a 14.8 hp Yanmar engine and has an operating weight of 4,173 pounds. Its maximum digging reach is 12 feet, 10 inches and its maximum lifting capacity is 2,158 pounds.
Bucket dig forces have increases by 18 percent and arm dig forces by 8 percent over the previous model.
In addition, hand and foot control levers have been repositioned for additional comfort. The two-speed propel switch is now more conveniently located to the left of the floor area. The control pattern selector (backhoe or excavator style) is located in a compartment beneath the operator’s seat.
