California Hilton recycles 5,700 mattresses

The Hilton Anaheim in Anaheim, California, recently recycled more than 2,500 mattresses as part of its new mattress recycling program, a report by honestmattressreviews.com says. 

The 1,574-room hotel’s imitative launched in January and ended Feb. 16. The effort is Hilton’s largest mattress recycling project in the U.S., the report says. Hilton began its worldwide mattress recycling program in 2012. The Anaheim resort recycled 5,700 mattresses and box spring pieces.

Hilton has recycled 8,100 mattresses and box spring pieces at a total of 432,000 pounds of waste and the initiatives includes states such as Tennessee, California, New York and North Carolina. According to the report, 15 to 20 million mattresses and box springs are disposed of each year.

For the Hilton, there is a 50 percent cost savings by recycling mattresses and the company also reduced its energy use by 14.5 percent, water use by 14.1 percent, waste output by 27.6 percent and cut carbon output by 20.9 percent. According to the report, Hilton has saved $550 million from these sustainability efforts.
