E.L. Harvey & Sons held a groundbreaking ceremony on June 26 for its $20 million recycling facility on the Hopkinton-Westboro, Mass., line, complete with silver ceremonial shovels and brown piles of dirt. Local and state officials heaped praise on the Harvey family for pushing on through years and years of delays and lawsuits, according to the Worcester Telegram.
The project is located adjacent to the company’s existing facility. It will include three buildings, including an 80,000 square foot construction and demolition recycling facility, a traditional recycling facility, and a garage for servicing equipment and storing fuel.

"We are excited to finally get this project moving forward," said Ben Harvey, one of the company’s owners, the news report continued.
The ceremony was feted after several years of acrimony from some neighbors and environmentalists of the facility. During permit approval stages, opponents slowed or halted the project due to concerns that the facility would contaminate local wetlands.
While the company did receive some local approval, published reports note that the company still needs to apply for a number of state permits to build the facility, which some of the environmentalists will contest.
