Grim Outlook for Proposed New York C&D Facility

A plan to build a construction and demolition debris recycling and landfill facility in Hoosick, N.Y., will likely not come to fruition, according to a report in the Bennington Banner (Bennington, Vt.).

Town officials have said the proposal by Wastetricity Inc. is likely dead, according to the report. The company is seeking to build a $50 million facility that would recycle C&D material, including wood, OCC and ferrous metals, on a 700-acre site near a historic battlefield. The proposed facility would use about 300 acres of that site, leaving the rest of the land as a buffer zone.

City officials and some residents have voiced opposition to the plan because of its proximity to the historic site. According to the report, the town recently canceled a scheduled public hearing at which the company intended to offer details of the project to the public.
