Green Tech Transfer and Recycling Receives Environmental Excellence Award

Representatives from Green Tech Transfer and Recycling, LLC, based in South Bend, Ind., received a crystal trophy for achievements in the category of "Recycling and Reuse" during a special Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence ceremony. The award was presented during the Association of Indiana Solid Waste Management District’s 16th annual meeting.

Green Tech Transfer and Recycling, LLC provides extensive recycling operations at a transfer station, which is a processing facility for solid waste. The company has also taken recycling one step further, repurposing the former Studebaker Plant 8 facility into an 85,000 square foot building designed for its needs.

"All of us at Green Tech Recycling and Mother Earth, LLC are honored to have been selected for the Governor’s Award in Recycling/Reuse," said Belinda Morris, owner. "To say this project has been a collaborative effort from everyone involved would be an understatement. When we first decided to bring this dream to fruition we knew it would be necessary to assemble a team of professionals, both public and private, to not only complete this project but to complete it in an extremely professional and environmentally responsible manner."

The Governor’s Awards for Environmental Excellence are open to all Indiana facilities, government agencies, individuals, and other groups that implement exemplary environmental projects with measurable results. The awards recognize Indiana’s leaders who have implemented outstanding environmental strategies into their operations and decision-making processes. By seeking out and utilizing innovative environmental practices, these facilities and programs have reduced waste, saved money and contributed greatly to Indiana’s environmental protection efforts, benefiting the health and welfare of the state’s communities and the state as a whole.

"Green Tech Transfer and Recycling, LLC deserves this recognition for creating and implementing an innovative project that can be admired by the entire community," said Thomas Easterly, Indiana Department of Environmental Management commissioner. "The company’s contribution toward protecting Indiana’s environment is a standard that we should all strive to follow."

"Each of us has known from the beginning the importance of this project and the acknowledgment for all our hard work is very much appreciated," stated Morris. "We began this project in 2005 with the objective to provide a centrally located facility for responsibly handling waste and recyclables while rehabilitating a blighted area of the community. We also hoped to instill the importance of protecting the environment in our community’s youth through educational programs. We are proud to have accomplished our mission."
