The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) held its annual Federal Summit at the Ronald Reagan and International Trade Center in Washington, D.C., April 5, 2005, where it recognized former Sec. of Energy Spencer Abraham with a Federal Leadership award for his dedication and support of green building.
The summit provided a forum for discussion on how members of the federal government are meeting green building goals and implementing the USGBC’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating system.
“Over the past four years, LEED has grown on average 160 percent per year,” said Rick Fedrizzi, USGBC president, CEO and founding chair. “We would never have made that kind of progress without solid support at the federal level, especially from champions like Sec. Abraham.”
Abraham stressed the need to focus on energy efficient technologies. He highlighted green building in particular as an important strategy for decreasing domestic energy consumption.
