Green Building Cropping Up in Cincinnati

Melink Corp. applying for LEED certification with construction of new headquarters.

Melink Corp., Cincinnati, has announced it will apply for certification under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program for its new headquarters, according to a report in the Cincinnati Business Courier.

Construction has already begun on the 30,000-square-foot building that will house all operations of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning products manufacturer. It is slated to be finished by summer 2005, according to the report.

Some of the features designed to earn the new Melink headquarters its green building distinction include geothermal heating pumps, use of solar heating and windows that allow for more natural lighting.

The Cincinnati Business Courier reports that there are only three other LEED-certified buildings in Ohio, including the Federal Building and U.S. Courthouse in Youngstown, PNC Bank’s Beckett Ridge branch in West Chester and the Norwood Venture Phase 1 in Cincinnati.
