Granite Construction Inc., Watsonville, Calif., has announced that Granite Construction Co., a wholly owned subsidiary, has been awarded a $23.3 million runway reconstruction project by the U.S. Army.
The project is located at the Dugway Proving Ground, which is approximately 100 miles southwest of Salt Lake City.
The project involves reconstruction of the existing runway and includes removal of existing asphalt pavement, excavation, aggregate base course, asphalt and concrete pavement, drainage, pavement markings and electrical work.
Materials for the job will be supplied by Granite and include 320,000 tons of aggregate base, 46,000 tons of asphalt concrete for the drainage layer, 63,000 cubic yards of concrete and 27,000 tons of asphalt.
Construction on the project will be performed by Granite’s Utah Branch.
The project is expected to begin in March, with completion estimated for November 2006.
