Graham Construction Prepares for Busy 2010

Minnesota company to work on projects in several states.

Graham Construction Services Inc., Eagan, Minn., says it has been selected to play a role in four civil infrastructure projects valued at a combined total of $76 million

  • The City of Corpus Christi, Texas, has hired the company to build a new $50 million wastewater treatment plant. Graham says it received a Notice to Proceed for construction of the city’s new Broadway Wastewater Treatment Plant, which will replace a plant built in 1936. Graham’s work will include site landscaping and site roadways and access; demolishing selected existing structures and utilities; constructing a new administration, operations and maintenance building; and repairing and reconstructing other areas affected by the new work. Construction is expected to begin in February, 2009 and to be completed in two phases over a course of three years.

  • The City of Minneapolis has contracted with Graham for facility improvements and new construction at a dewatering plant in Fridley, Minn. Federal stimulus dollars available through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act are funding part of the improvements to the plant on the Fridley campus of the Minneapolis Water Works. The project calls for the plant to be improved and expanded to be more energy efficient and help save taxpayers’ money by using new filter presses that remove excess water from the plant’s solids, thus reducing the weight and the cost of hauling byproducts created by the filtering process. The $19.2 million construction services contract involves building a two-story, 24,000-square-foot press building addition and other improvements and upgrades, including a bridge crane and monorail hoisting system.

  • To provide fresh water from Lake Sakakawea to its residents, the City of Parshall, N.D., is building a water treatment system. Graham is constructing a 10-foot-diameter precast concrete caisson, wet well, pumping structure with an overall depth of 138 feet. Through a 1,750-linear-foot directional drilling method, Graham is installing a 12-inch-high density polyethylene pipe and a new intake screen that will draw water from Lake Sakakawea to fill the wet well, providing water for the treatment plant. The $3.1 million project is expected to be completed in June 2010.

  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Paul District, has selected Graham for dredging on the Mississippi River, near Kellogg, Minn. Graham has been contracted to excavate and transport about 643,000 cubic yards of stockpile dredge material. The work will require the use of dozers and an excavator to assist in the movement of soil toward the dredge and in shaping the final areas. The project is estimated at $3.8 million with an anticipated completion in July 2010.
