Goodwill Industries of Silicon Valley announced has acquired the carpet collection and sorting business from SF Carpet Recycling, the first carpet recycling facility in the San Francisco Bay Area. Following the successful acquisition, SFCR continues to operate independently with a focus on new market development for the growing supply of post-consumer carpet products.
Goodwill recently expanded its operations to include mattress dismantling and recycling.
"In 2008, Goodwill Industries of Silicon Valley collected and repurposed over 18 million pounds of donated goods. Purchasing this collection and sorting business from SF Carpet Recycling marks an important step toward our goal of reducing the amount of usable materials sent to landfill while creating new employment opportunities and contributing to the sustainability of our local communities," said Robert Walker, GM of the Carpet Reclamation project. Through the acquisition, Goodwill becomes one of approximately 60 used carpet collection facilities operating in the United States and strengthens its position as a vital partner in helping local governments meet stringent waste diversion targets.
