Georgia Gets First LEED Silver Public High School

Perkins + Will designed DeKalb County school to meet LEED Silver standards.

Perkins + Will, a sustainable architecture firm, has designed Arabia Mountain High School in DeKalb County, Ga., to be the state’s first LEED-Silver public high school.

Sustainable features of the school include:

  • Construction materials that are 10 to 20 percent recycled
  • Reduced water use with low-flow plumbing fixtures, sink sensors and waterless urinals
  • Exclusion of materials that emit harmful odors
  • Individually controlled HVAC to reduce energy waste in unoccupied areas

The school has also been designed to increase natural daylight in classrooms. The 240,000-square-foot facility has 42 classrooms, 10 science labs, a 600-seat auditorium and a 1,400-seat gymnasium.
