A company’s proposal to expand the Clayton County, Ga., landfill to accept construction and demolition debris have progressed after the first of three public hearings, according to a report in the Clayton County News-Daily (Jonesboro, Ga.).
Representatives from Stephens MDS, the Lawrenceville, Ga.-based landfill owner behind the proposal, met with the community Feb. 2 to discuss its efforts to obtain a permit from the state that allows for C&D debris.
The landfill already accepts wood, bricks, concrete, asphalt and leaves, according to the report.
Company representatives argued that the landfill would be a convenient location for the disposal of C&D debris generated by a runway project at the nearby Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the News-Daily reports.
