City officials in Fremont, Calif., are considering a green building ordinance, according to a report in the Fremont Bulletin (Fremont, Calif.).
The proposed ordinance would require that civic structures larger than 10,000 square feet be certified by the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, which awards points for using green building practices.
According to the report, several other cities in California have adopted similar ordinances, including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose and Sunnyvale.
