Free Online Directory Targets State’s Construction Waste

WasteCap Wisconsin launches online directory of reuse and recycling markets for Wisconsin's construction and demolition waste.

In celebration of Earth Day, WasteCap Wisconsin has launched the state’s first online directory of reuse and recycling markets for Wisconsin’s construction and demolition waste. The directory, named WasteCapDIRECT, is a free service for contractors to connect with haulers, processors and end markets for some of Wisconsin’s most common construction and demolition waste materials.

“This will be a very useful tool for construction professionals in Wisconsin,” says David Shoemaker, director of construction management for Boldt Construction. “I look forward to using it on our projects.”

Materials included in the directory include asphalt, brick, cardboard, carpet and carpet padding, ceiling tiles, concrete, drywall, metal, pallets, shingles, reusable items and wood. According to the 2003 Wisconsin Statewide Waste Characterization Study, nearly a third of the solid waste in Wisconsin’s landfills is construction and demolition debris.

Companies that haul, process or accept construction and demolition waste in Wisconsin should contact WasteCap Wisconsin at 414-961-1100 to be listed in the directory.

The directory is located at www.wastecapwi.org/direct.
