The Fort Wayne, Ind., Redevelopment Commission is expected to complete the signing of three contracts to complete the demolition of a closed mall in the city. The contracts will total close to $2.5 million.
Craig Berndt, with the city of Fort Wayne, said the first contract was recently signed with Preferred Environmental to remove the fluorescent lights, ballast, mercury switches, batteries and other similar materials. The project is expected to be complete by the end of this month. The value of the project is $64,810.
The second contract is expected to be signed within a week. This one will be awarded to LCI Environmental, and is for $866,500.
This contract will go toward removal of asbestos at the mall.
The third contract is expected to be signed by the end of this month. This contract is expected to be awarded to Bianchi Industrial Services, a Syracuse, NY-based demolition firm. The company will be involved in the demolition of the project. The contract will be for slightly less than $1.5 million.
