The Florida Recycling Summit at Marlins Park will be held on Friday, Aug. 14. The one-day event is being designed to “bring together top Florida businesses and associations to discuss recycling efforts in the state,” according to its organizers.
The Summit is sponsored by Publix, Waste Management Inc., First Florida Capital Finance Corp. and Southern Waste Systems (SWS). It is the second Florida Recycling Summit presented by the Florida Recycling Partnership.
The Florida Recycling Partnership describes itself as a coalition of businesses and associations dedicated to improving Florida’s recycling rates.
Speakers will discuss current recycling trends and how recycling has made on impact on their company and its customers.
Session topics include:
- Business recycling and a mandatory recycling program for businesses in the Miami-Dade County region. Panelists include Jeanmarie Masa, recycling manager for the Miami-Dade County Public Works & Waste Management Department; Kim Brunson, recycle and solid waste manager of grocery chain Publix; and Pat Johnson, total recycling program manager for Waste Management Inc.
- Construction materials recycling, with Patti Hamilton of Southern Waste Systems (SWS) offering an overview of this sector.
- Jeff King, VP-facilities with the Miami Marlins, will discuss the team’s efforts in achieving LEED Gold for the construction of Marlins Park as well as details of the team’s current recycling efforts from opening day and throughout the season.
A tour of Marlins Park also will be offered to attendees.
The program begins at 10:00 am and the cost to attend the Florida Recycling Summit at Marlins Park is $75 and includes lunch.
