Florida county commissioners consider temporary location permits for concrete recycling

Escambia County, Florida, commissioners are considering issuing temporary permits to construction and demolition (C&D) recycling companies, a report by WEAR says. The on-location permits are an effort to avoid transportation of debris to specific sites.

With the permits, portable rock crushers can move to different sites around Escambia County and be at each site for five to seven days. The permits would be restricted to daytime hours and issued no more than twice per year at the same location.

Permitted sites that are up for renewal have been getting shorter renewal periods as commissioners find an alternative, the report says.

“We want the option to be able to have folks that stockpiled a bunch of concrete to bring in a temporary mechanism to crush it. We are working in that direction,” Commissioner Jeff Bergosh says in the report.

Commissioners took no action on the permits but will look at it again at a future meeting.
