Homeowners who oppose a plan to add a recycling center for C&D debris at a Palm City, Fla., landfill have convinced the Martin County Commission to rethink the proposal, according to a report from TCPalm.com,
The commission has held off on awarding a $2.7 million contract to handle vegetative and C&D debris. Commissioner Ed Ciampi, who’s district includes the Palm City Landfill site mulching operation to which the recycling facility was to be added, has one month to submit an agreeable proposal. Homeowners opposed to the facility sited health concerns about air pollution as the basis for their opposition.
According to the report, several alternative plans have been proposed. One possibility is moving the mulching operation and setting up the C&D recycling center to the first Palm City Landfill, which is one mile east of the second landfill.
Another possibility is constructing a waste processing center to house all the mulching and recycling operations within a building that will prevent the spread of noise, odors, dust and other particles to the residential neighborhoods.
