Florida City to Help ‘Rebuild’

Gulf Breeze, Fla., plans to aid Rebuild Northwest Florida with disposal of remaining hurricane debris.

The city of Gulf Breeze, Fla., has announced its intentions to help Rebuild Northwest Florida Inc. in removing remaining debris from last year’s disastrous hurricane season, according to a report in the Gulf Breeze News (Gulf Breeze, Fla.).

Rebuild Northwest Florida is a non-profit organization based in Pensacola, Fla., that is helping to rebuild the Florida panhandle following Hurricane Ivan.

Gulf Breeze City Manager Edwin “Buz” Eddy tells the Gulf Breeze News that the city is currently discussing providing debris removal assistance or donating money to the clean-up cause.

The city is trying to engage the help of waste hauler Browning-Ferris Inc. (BFI) to allow hurricane debris to be dumped at BFI’s landfill in Brewton, Ala. Another option on the table calls for BFI to provide special dumpsters for hurricane debris at construction and demolition sites for a lower cost.
