Florida C&D Landfill to Close

GEL Corp. to stop collection construction debris by Feb. 28.

GEL Corp. has agreed to stop collecting construction debris at its Orange City, Fla., landfill by Feb. 28 and to completely close the facility by Sept. 30, according to a report in the Daytona Beach News-Journal (Daytona Beach, Fla.).

GEL Corp. purchased the 33-acre property in 1985, and it was permitted for a C&D debris landfill in 1990, according to the report. A recycling permit was added in 1996.

The closure follows complaints from neighbors about odor and frequent fires, according to the report.
