At its current rate of receiving 171 tons of construction debris per day, Flagler County, Fla.’s Old Kings Road landfill will reach its capacity within months, according to a report in the Daytona Beach News-Journal (Daytona Beach, Fla.).
County officials are currently discussing short-term disposal options, including having larger commercial enterprises haul debris to a site in Volusia County, while allowing smaller companies to dump construction debris at the Old Kings facility to extend the life of the landfill, according to the report.
The News-Journal reports that many residents support moving all the debris elsewhere and closing the site permanently. But county officials worry that having no local landfill will lead to more illegal dumping.
