Carpet squares designer to collect unwanted carpet from Denver residents

FLOR offers service as part of America Recycles Day.

FLOR Inc., a Chicago-based carpet squares design company, has announced an initiative to help the people of Denver keep used carpeting out of landfills in and around the city. In celebration of America Recycles Day, on Saturday, Nov. 15, FLOR will collect and recycle unwanted rugs and carpets to help simplify and ease the strenuous process for Denver consumers, the company says.

Beginning at noon on America Recycles Day, a FLOR branded truck will depart from the Cherry Creek FLOR store and pick up rolled carpet from the curbs of the city and surrounding neighborhoods that would otherwise be headed for a landfill.

To participate in the event and be included in FLOR’s carpet recycling route, contact FLOR at recycleFLOR@gmail.com by Sunday, Nov. 9, and provide a Denver-area address. In exchange for the used carpet, FLOR will drop a $100 gift card to the Cherry Creek retail location in participants’ mailboxes.

“FLOR’s commitment to sustainability has a long and historic past,” says Rick Kilmer, president at FLOR. “With our store’s presence in the Cherry Creek neighborhood, we thought America Recycles Day was the perfect time for us to take to the Denver streets and continue our mission of keeping used carpet waste out of local landfills.”

To help combat the estimated 4 billion pounds of carpet that is discarded in the U.S. every year, FLOR will ship the carpet collected on America Recycles Day back to its distribution center near Atlanta where its parent company—Interface Inc.— continues its sustainability quest, according to the company. FLOR will recycle the old carpet into new carpet design squares available for purchase through the Cherry Creek location as well as on FLOR.com.

Committed to reducing its carbon footprint and developing environmentally conscious floor covering for consumers, FLOR says it manufactures its products with renewable and recycled raw materials. It ensures discarded materials bypass landfills through its Return & Recycle program, where used FLOR squares are reclaimed and created into new, high-quality FLOR designs.
