Flip Screen Aids in Recycling

Flip Screen Australia has introduced its new screening attachments for scrap metal and other recycling industries.

The Flip Screen range of screening attachments feature continuous 360-degree rotating action to separate different sized materials including steel and dirt. As the Flip Screen rotates, the finer materials are sieved through a mesh screen, keeping the larger materials trapped inside. Upon counter rotation, the larger materials are ejected from the bucket, leaving two stockpiles of materials.

A large Bradken foundry uses its E130 Flip Screen with a Hitachi 270 excavator to recover scrap steel from thousands of tonnes of waste casting sand and soil.

"The Flip Screen has been a great piece of equipmnet to have in the reclamation of foundry scrap and allows us to on sell the sand," says John McNab from Bradken. On the type of scrap being sorted, McNab says that the Flip Screen is recovering "any scrap from casting risers, runners to reinforcing just about anything put into the moulds."

The Flip Screen models are suited for a wide range of excavators, skid steers, wheel loaders, backhoes and telehandlers. The high-tensile mesh screens range in operating size from half an inch to 12 inches and feature a latch mechanism that enables the attachments to be switched out in about four minutes.

ELG Recycling Processors use the Flip Screen to remove contaminates such as dirt and dust from stainless steel. "The Flip Screen has very quickly become an integral part of our quality control here at ELG," says David Beardshall from ELG.

ELG runs an E80 Flip Screen, which suits excavators from 40,700 to 55,000 pounds.
