Lake County, Fla., commissioners have approved a request to create a construction and demolition debris landfill within the county, according to a report in the Orlando Sentinel.
The site will be located at a 40-acre clay pit near Sugarloaf Mountain in Lake County.
Opponents of the plan have expressed concern that the landfill will contaminate air and water in the area, according to the report.
The vote followed a four-hour meeting during which both sides of the debate presented evidence that included amateur video, newspaper reports and aerial photos.
