A mulch fire at a Pennsylvania wood recycling plant burned for more than six hours the morning of Sept. 13, a report by WTAE Pittsburgh says. The fire started burning at Wood Waste Recycling in North Fayette Township at around 3:30 a.m.
According to the report, fires at this location have happened before, but this incident was the worst yet. At least eight departments fought the fire using tanker trunks filled at nearby hydrants to put out the flames.
A 5,000-gallon tanker from Pittsburgh International Airport was a part of the fleet that helped during the incident.
Witness Dave Lafferty says in the report that he arrived on the scene at around 6 a.m. when he saw “nothing but oranges flames” and smoke.
The report says the cause of the fire is under investigation.
