The Construction Materials Recycling Association (CMRA), Lisle, Ill., in concert with several industry stakeholders, is developing a Best Management Practices Guide for C&D fines, or small material consisting of dust, soil and other particles.
The purpose of the guide, according to CMRA executive director William Turley, is to provide the information needed to properly and safely handle this inevitable part of the C&D materials stream.
Among the groups CMRA is working with are landfill operators, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, universities and C&D recycling companies. The guide, which is expected to be finished by the end of the year, will outline methods to use the material in ways that will solve potential odor and contaminant problems. It is expected that state regulatory agencies will find the information useful when deciding how to regulate the material.
