The county’s Parks and Waterways headquarters in Barber Park received the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification this past fall.

The Ada County Courthouse was the first building in the state to earn LEED certification, followed by the remodeling of the Ada County Development Services Department on the courthouse’s second floor, which one the state its second green construction distinction, according to the report.

Boise’s Front f Building and the Banner Bank Building also earned LEED certification.

The building in Barber Park has a roof covered with recycled plastic trays full of sedum plants, which help regulate the temperature in the building by insulating the roof. The carpet in the building is also made of recycled plastics. Each square can be remove and replaced if it gets stained so the whole carpet isn’t wasted, according to the report.
