There is no determined reason for the searches, according to the report, but Caterpillar spokesperson Corrie Scott told Fortune that the company was cooperating with authorities.
Scott told Fortune law enforcement was present and executing a search warrant. The Internal Revenue Service’s Criminal Investigation Division, the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security’s Office of Export Enforcement and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.’s Office of Inspector General were involved in the searches, according to the report.
The Morton facility is responsible for receiving replacement parts to facilities and Caterpillar dealers, the report says. The company also recently announced it is moving its headquarters from Peoria to Chicago.
