Facebook announced on June 30 that it has selected DeKalb, Illinois, as the home of its newest data center. According to a news release, the Facebook DeKalb Data Center will be “among the most advanced, energy- and water-efficient data center facilities in the world.”
This 907,000-square-foot-facility will be supported by 100 percent renewable energy, will use 80 percent less water than the average data center, and will be LEED Gold certified once completed, the company says.
Krusinski Construction Company, Oak Brook, Illinois, helped in designing the facility and will serve as one of the contractors on the project. Mortenson Construction, Minneapolis, was selected as the general contractor for the build.
The project is anticipated to bring hundreds of construction jobs to the area. At the project’s peak, Facebook estimates that the site will employ an estimated 1,200 construction and trades professionals.
“We are very excited to welcome Facebook to the ChicagoWest Business Center in DeKalb, Illinois, after having collaborated closely with Facebook’s project team in this complex process,” Krusinski Construction Company CEO Jerry Krusinski says. “Krusinski Construction Company is looking forward to building the utility infrastructure and road work improvements necessary to facilitate this project and Facebook’s future growth at the ChicagoWest Business Center.”
