Extec Doublescreen on the Job in Illinois

Paving contractor deploys S-5 Doublescreen model.

Plote Construction Inc, with production plants in Bartlett, Chicago, Franklin Park, Hillside Huntley, and West Chicago, Ill., produces thousands of tons of aggregate and asphalt mixes to road and highway construction projects on a daily basis.

For two years the company has been using an S-5 Doublescreen unit made by Extec Screens & Crushers Ltd., based in Derbyshire, U.K., to process asphalt millings into three fractions of material. The fractions are used by highway departments to construct and repair roadways or in areas such as parking lots.

The S-5 Doublescreen box separates the asphalt into fine-grained and oversize material; the oversize is fed to a crusher after the finer material is screened off and processed separately by the crusher to Plote’s product quality standards.

The processed asphalt with a grade of – ½’’ is directed to the tail conveyor and a material grade of ¼ to ½-inch to the side conveyor.

“The key factors are the high quality and massive production rate of Extec’s S-5 Doublescreen box assembly,” says David Zumbrunn, project manager of Plote Inc.

The split-drive inter-angling Doublescreen system enables the first screen box to be used as a fines extractor while the second box operates as a grader. Extec says the system provides “the most specific grading of products for any mobile system on the market.”

The S-5 is also designed to be transported as a trailer quickly and easily without the use of a low loader, as its hydraulic trailer system is designed to allow it to be easily removed on site, allowing quick set up for screening, according to Extec.

“In the end it was the speed of set up, high production capabilities and the terrific transport [trailer] design that confirmed our purchase decision,” says Zumbrunn.
