The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) released its September edition of the Monthly Densified Biomass Fuel Report. The report tracks production of densified biomass fuel in the U.S. by state, region and capacity for the month.
The report showed that manufacturing facilities produced 133,344 tons of heating pellets in the month, compared with 433,464 tons of utility pellets. Domestic sales of densified biomass fuel equated to 219,369 tons, averaging $156.45 per ton. Exported materials totaled 489,020 tons, averaging $116.43 per ton. The respondents purchased 1.14 million tons of raw biomass feedstock for the month.
The monthly data was collected from 88 operating manufacturers of densified biomass fuel. These manufacturers have a total production capacity of 11.92 million tons per year.
