Eagle Materials to Increase Cement Capacity

Building materials producer announced plans to expand cement plants.

Eagle Materials Inc., Dallas, has announced plans to expand its Mountain Cement plant in Laramie, Wyo., and its Nevada Cement plant in Fernley, Nev.

According to a press release from Eagle Materials, the plans will expand the production capacity of Mountain Cement by 60 percent and double the production capacity of Nevada Cement bringing both plants up to 1.1 million tons of cement production.

The two projects are expected to cost approximately $320 million, according to the release.

Both plants are expected to be operational by the fall of 2008.

These projects, along with the previously announced expansion of Eagle’s cement plant in LaSalle, Ill., represent an approximate 50 percent increase in Eagle’s cement production capacity—from 2.65 million tons per year to 4 million tons per year.

The company has also announced a 30 percent increase in production capacity at its greenfield wallboard plant in Georgetown, S.C. The new plant will have an annual design capacity of 750 million square feet and is scheduled to begin operations in late 2007.

Through its subsidiaries, Dallas-based Eagle Materials manufactures and distributes building materials and construction products such as cement, gypsum wallboard, recycled paperboard, concrete and aggregates.
