Demolition began on the inside of the Fashion Mall in Plantation, Florida, a report from local news source The Sun Sentinel says. The mall has been vacant for a decade.
Plans for the spot include a $300 million redevelopment with 700 units of apartments, new offices and retail stores, the report says.
A real estate development firm that is an affiliate of Encore Capital Management, Boca Raton, Florida, bought the mall for $37.7 million at a bankruptcy auction. The company plays to remove the mall completely by the end of next year.
Pending permits, the new project could be open by the end of 2018.
