Demolition of the Children’s Memorial Hospital in Chicago began on June 7, a report by ABC 7 Chicago says. The 6-acre site’s demolition will continue for six months.
The vacant hospital will be replaced with a multi-use complex that will include a 540-unit residence, 163,000 square feet of commercial and retail space and 60,000 square feet of open space, the report says.
After critics claimed the high rise was not a good fit for the neighborhood, a lawsuit to stop the project was unsuccessful.
Construction on the new complex will begin early next year.
