Debris Burning Ban Halted in Maine House

Bill to limit percentage of C&D wood for biomass fuel still under consideration.

Maine lawmakers have rejected a proposed moratorium on the burning of construction and demolition debris, according to a report in the Portland Press Herald (Portland, Maine).

However, the state House of Representatives has given initial approval to a bill that would limit the amount of wood from C&D debris that could be used as biomass fuel to 50 percent per year, according to the report.

The bill faces further votes in the House and Senate.

Other states in the region have imposed similar bans, including New Hampshire. The current ban in New Hampshire is scheduled to expire in July, however some state lawmakers have proposed an extension.
