Dallas Contracting Completes Demo Services for Redevelopment Project

Scrap metal, concrete and asphalt from project recycled.

Dallas Contracting Co., South Plainfield, N.J., has completed demolition services for a redevelopment project in Belmar, N.J.

The company demolished five commercial and residential structures that consisted of three multi-story houses, one strip mall and a large three-story commercial building for a total of 15,000 square feet. Several driveways and parking lots were demolished as well.

Asbestos abatement was preformed by the Mack Group LLC. Demolition was conducted using Komatsu excavators mounted with grapple and bucket attachments, skid steers mounted with demo buckets and a crew consisting of operators and laborers.

Several buildings were located near a state highway, so special care had to be taken so that no debris fell toward the road. To accomplish this, the buildings were demolished in a controlled manner using a PC300 excavator with a grapple attachment that pulled the building toward the project area, which made the debris fall away from the highway, according to a press release from Dallas Contracting.

Debris was disposed offsite. Scrap metals were collected and recycled, and all masonry, concrete and brick was crushed onsite and recycled offsite. In addition, asphalt parking lots and driveways were demolished and all asphalt materials were sent offsite for recycling.

With the demolition activities complete, the site will soon be redeveloped for new housing.
