Crushed Concrete Illegally Ditched at N.Y. Park

Employees at Cedar Creek Park in Nassau County, N.Y., have found nearly 4,000 yards of crushed concrete illegally deposited at the park, according to a report in the New York Daily News.

Michael Klein, deputy county executive, tells the New York Daily News that there is no evidence the material is toxic. He says the problem was a “miscommunication” between park officials and the owner of a local concrete recycling facility—Michael Loguidice of Conroc, Oceanside, N.Y.

He says that the park employed Loguidice to put clean fill near a park road, and apparently the contractor continued dumping the material after the project should have been completed.

Residents voiced concerns over children who play at the park coming in contact with potentially dangerous material, according to the report.
