Total construction spending fell by 0.6 percent in November, according to monthly statistics released by the U.S. Commerce Department. Year-to-date, construction spending is 5.3 percent behind the same period in 2007.
Residential spending continued its decline, posting a 4.2 percent fall from October’s estimate.
Nonresidential private construction spending posted a moderate gain of 0.7 percent above October. Public construction also rose 1.4 percent. Educational and highway construction grew 1.3 percent over October.
