Bestech, Inc., a construction and demolition general contractor based in Ellington, Conn. will pay a $2,000 penalty for violating state air quality regulations, as part of a negotiated settlement with the Department of Environmental Protection.
On August 28, 2002, DEP inspected a demolition site in Chicopee, Mass. The demolition work being performed by Bestech was causing excessive dust that affected adjacent facilities. Moreover, the contractor had not properly notified DEP of the project.
Massachusetts regulations require that dust and particulate matter be controlled during construction and demolition projects.
With the settlement, Bestech has agreed to ensure that its construction and demolition projects comply with all applicable regulations.
