Conn. Zoning Board Denies Recycling Operation

Bristol, Conn. Board votes down application by local contractor to recycle aggregate materials.

The Bristol, Conn., Zoning Board has voted to deny a local contractor’s application to expand his facility to include an aggregate materials recycling operation, according to a report in the Bristol Press (Bristol, Conn.).

The board voted unanimously against construction contractor Martin Laviero Constractors Inc.’s application for a permit to process earth materials and recycled aggregate, saying the facility is too close to a residential neighborhood, according to the report.

The Bristol Press reports that the Zoning Board amended regulations a few months ago to allow recycling operations like the one proposed by Martin Laviero Contractors, but only by special permit.

However, commissioners agreed to give a five-year permit for the same kind of work to a site in a different neighborhood, applied for by Laviero Realty, according to the report.
