Concrete recycling will play a role in the widening of the Spaulding Turnpike toll road in eastern New Hampshire. The project will entail closing a turnpike exit for two weeks in early February.
Contractor A.J. Coleman & Son, Rochester, N.H., will be crushing concrete that formerly made up the roadway for Exit 3 of the Spaulding Turnpike to create the paving material for a newly graded Exit 3.
According to a report in the online version of the Portsmouth (N.H.) Herald, a crushing plant will be set up to process the “big chunks of pavement from the old turnpike” as aggregate that will be used to widen a portion of the Spaulding Turnpike from four to eight lanes.
New Hampshire Department of Transportation engineer James Hersey is quoted by the Herald as saying the crushing and recycling plant “turns the pavement into a real nice strong reclaimed material.”
