Concrete Crushing Operation Approved at Michigan Mine

Temporary arrangement permits concrete crushing until March.

The Township Board of Calendonia Township, Mich., has approved a concrete crushing operation at a local sand mine, according to a report in the Grand Rapids Press (Grand Rapids, Mich.).

The owners of Cherry Valley Resources, a sand mine in Calendonia Township, plan to mix on- and off-site concrete with material being removed from the mine, according to the report.

The product will be used for base in parking lots, driveways and other paving projects.

The terms approved by the board allow for a temporary operation only—all crushing will occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on 15 weekdays from Nov. 15 to March 15.

According to the report, the Planning Commission voted to approve the proposal in October. The commission’s recommendation was altered slightly to allow for the crushing of small amounts of asphalt as well.
