Company Proposes C&D Landfill in Hawaii

Pacific Aggregate seeks permission to establish landfill at Maili, Hawaii, quarry.

 

Pacific Aggregate has filed an application to establish a construction and demolition debris landfill at its quarry in Maili, Hawaii, according to a report in the Star Bulletin (Honolulu, Hawaii).

 

The company wants to create the C&D landfill in used parts of the 50-year-old operational Pacific Aggregate Quarry.

 

A local environmental group called EnviroWatch has alleged that the facility has been accepting crushed concrete and coal ash without a permit, according to the report.

 

The company has filed an application with the Health Department. The proposal will also require approval from the state Land Use Commission, which is expected to being hearings on the matter in March.
