Columbus, Ohio-based asphalt shingle recycling facility Green Earth Recycling received approval by the city of operate on the far east side after attempting to get clearance for two years, a report by the Columbus Dispatch says.
The company, located between the city of Columbus and its neighboring village, Brice, received the approval of a special permit from the Board of Zoning Adjustment after facing zoning violations for operating a scrap yard without a license, the report says. In April, the city council voted to rezone the property but owner Jim Cotugno needed approval from the zoning board.
According to the report, Cotugno has been operating the company since 2013 after purchasing the property at a sheriff’s sale for $112,386. Neighbors have previously complained about his operations.
