The Construction Materials Recycling Association (CMRA) has been contacted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Region 4 personnel and asked to provide names of companies that can assist in the clean up effort for areas affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Specifically, the federal agency is working with state and local officials as they start the long cleanup process. The EPA wants companies that are used to handling storm debris, especially those that can reduce volume and perhaps recycle some of the material.
“What we have done so far is to provide names of member companies that are interested in doing this kind of work and have the machinery capable of handling the debris,” says William Turley, executive director of the CMRA and associate publisher of Construction & Demolition Recycling. “We provided those members the contact name [at the EPA] to get on that list. We have also been in contact with state officials to offer free advice from our expert members on how to best handle the mess. We expect that the CMRA will be called on to provide more assistance for the clean up as it progresses.”
